Night Rating

www.canadianflyers.com

Interested in seeing the CN tower by night? Well then you will need one of these. The night rating provides an excellent training experience. It builds pilot confidence as well as providing the opportunity to brush up on a variety of flying skills. Although this rating is mandatory for pilots pursuing a commercial licence, it remains a highly useful and practical skill for any pilot. And just think, landing after sunset won't be a problem anymore.

The prerequisites for a commercial pilot's licence as prescribed by Transport Canada are as follows:

* The applicant must hold a valid Private Pilot Licence or higher to be eligible for the Night Rating.
* The applicant must hold an unrestricted Category 1 or 3 Medical Certificate completed by a Transport Canada approved Medical Examiner (ask staff for a list of Aviation Medical Examiners).

Training requirements for this licence are as follows:

Flight Training

A minimum of twenty (20) hours consisting of:

Instrument Flying

* 10 hours dual (with instructor)

Note: 5 hours of instrument time may be carried over from the Private Pilot Licence. In addition, 5 of the 10 instrument hours required may be flight simulator time and can be applied to this rating. These hours cannot however, be used to reduce the total dual or solo time required.

Night Flying

* 10 hours consisiting of: 5 hours dual (with instructor) and 5 hours Solo

Note: These flight training times are based on Transport Canada minimums and more training may be required.

Graduation Requirements

An applicant must satisfy all training criteria as outlined in the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).

Graduation Privilages of the Night Rating

The night rating entitles the holder to fly any single-engine or multi-engine non-high performance aircraft to fly at night under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).
