118Air Italia AirAmbulance

„Timpul inseamna bani".

Hundreds of successful graduates are now employed as helicopter pilots in Canada and around the world.
Ground school and flight training are designed to provide graduates with the skills and attitude necessary
to operate helicopters efficiently and safely under various flight conditions and remote geographic locations.
Flight Training and ground school subjects are taught at the new Canadore College Aviation Campus at the
Jack Garland Airport, North Bay, Ontario.
Ground school is intensive and covers all required aspects of helicopter operations. A variety of additional
operational training subjects provide the students with a balanced ground school training program.
Applicants will be participating in strenuous physical activities such as a helicopter landing pad construction,
chain saw operation, water egress training and a winter survival program.
Graduates from the program will receive a Canadore College Certificate and a Transport Canada
Commercial Pilot License (Helicopter) with endorsements on Piston and Turbine helicopters.

Flight Training Campus
Gateway Helicopters Ltd. operates in partnership with Canadore College
Canadore College Aviation Campus
In September 2002, Canadore opened its new $12.5 million Aviation Campus, located at North Bay's Jack
Garland Airport. The campus is a state-of-the-art facility, which provides students with classrooms,
resource centers, meeting rooms and student lounges.
This new campus positions the College as one of the most comprehensive aviation educators in Canada.
The Rotor Wing Flight Training Program partnership with Gateway Helicopters is a unique program that
provides students with the benefits of a college education combined with practical training.
The blend of academic, operational and practical aspects of helicopter flight training presents students with
a balanced training program.
With many experienced pilots retiring, and the departure of the former stream of military-trained pilots,
unique opportunities are being created for new civilian trained pilots. Current trends indicate that this will
continue to grow, with the demand for qualified professionals increasing worldwide.
We are here to help you put together all the pieces to make you a competent, safety-conscious pilot with
an excellent level of operational knowledge.
You will need to be dedicated and highly motivated, both as a student and in your career, with a solid work
ethic. The training is challenging, and encompasses far more than flying a helicopter.
Be ready to enjoy the training, but be ready to work hard at it.

Instructor Rating

www.canadianflyers.com

This is a specialized rating which is most often acquired by pilots who wish to build extensive flying time along with valuable expertise gained through the teaching experience. Extensive classroom time is devoted to methods of instruction and considerable emphasis is placed on flight instruction training to the Transport Canada standard.

The prerequisites for an instructor rating as prescribed by Transport Canada are as follows:

* The applicant must hold a valid Canadian Commercial Pilot Licence or higher with twenty (20) hours instrument time, ten (10) of which shall be instrument flight time.
* Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or a person lawfully admitted into Canada for flight training.
* Before commencing ground training, an applicant shall have successfully completed the written examination and flight test for the Commercial Pilot Licence .

Training requirements for this rating are as follows:

Ground School

A minimum of twenty five (25) hours of Instructor rating ground instruction is required.

Flight Training

A minimum of 30 hours dual flight instruction on overall pilot proficiency and the presentation of all exercises set forth in the Flight Instructor Guide consisting of:

* a minimum of five (5) hours of training in the teaching of instrument flight skills
* a maximum of five (5) of the thirty (30) hours may be conducted on an improved aeroplane simulator or flight training device.

Note : These flight training times are based on Transport Canada minimums and more training may be required.

Graduation Requirements

* The applicant must pass a Practical Flight Test conducted by a Transport Canada Flight Test Examiner.
* An applicant shall obtain a minimum of 70% in the written examination Flight Instructor Rating - Aeroplane Class 4 (AIRAF).

* Authorize a trainee for solo flight
* Instruct on ultra light aircraft without being supervise.

Instrument Rating

www.canadianflyers.com

Want to go play in the clouds? If the answer is yes then an instrument rating will be required to navigate through them. This rating is used primarily by commercial pilots although a number of private pilots engage in this training to ensure they have the full range of skills to operate in a variety of weather conditions. Saftety is always paramount in flying and an instrument rating helps ensure pilots are prepared to meet any challenge under a wide variety of flying conditions.

The prerequisites for a instrument rating as prescribed by Transport Canada are as follows:

* The applicant must hold a valid Private Pilot Licence or higher with 50 hours Pilot-in-Command cross country.
* Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or a person lawfully admitted into Canada for flight training. .

Graduation Privilages of the Night Rating

The Group 1 or Group 3 Instrument Rating entitles its holder to fly a non-high performance aircraft (Group 1 or 3) in Instrument Meteorlogical Weather Conditions (IMC) under their licence.

Multi-Engine Rating

www.canadianflyers.com

The multi-engine qualification is one of the most fun ratings to accomplish. Most pilots never forget the feeling of acceleration as they advance "both" throttles behind the controls of a multi-engine aircraft. This rating is a must for commercial pilots who wish to advance to more powerful and complex aircraft but it is becoming increasingly common amoung private pilots who want to fly longer distances in shorter periods of time.

The prerequisites for a multi-engine rating as prescribed by Transport Canada are as follows:

* Applicants must hold a valid Canadian Private Pilot Licence or higher.
* Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or a person lawfully admitted into Canada for flight training.

Training requirements for this licence are as follows:

Flight Training

On a Piper PA-44 Seminole twin engine aircraft.

Ground Training

Extensive briefing on operating procedures in a multi-engine aircraft.

Note : No minimum hours are required to obtain this rating.

Graduation Requirements

* The applicant must pass a Practical Flight Test conducted by a Transport Canada Designated Flight Test Examiner.
* The applicant must satisfy all training criteria as outlined in the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).

Privilages of the Multi-Engine Rating

The Multi-Engine Rating entitles its holder to fly any multi-engine non-high performance aircraft.

Night Rating

www.canadianflyers.com

Interested in seeing the CN tower by night? Well then you will need one of these. The night rating provides an excellent training experience. It builds pilot confidence as well as providing the opportunity to brush up on a variety of flying skills. Although this rating is mandatory for pilots pursuing a commercial licence, it remains a highly useful and practical skill for any pilot. And just think, landing after sunset won't be a problem anymore.

The prerequisites for a commercial pilot's licence as prescribed by Transport Canada are as follows:

* The applicant must hold a valid Private Pilot Licence or higher to be eligible for the Night Rating.
* The applicant must hold an unrestricted Category 1 or 3 Medical Certificate completed by a Transport Canada approved Medical Examiner (ask staff for a list of Aviation Medical Examiners).

Training requirements for this licence are as follows:

Flight Training

A minimum of twenty (20) hours consisting of:

Instrument Flying

* 10 hours dual (with instructor)

Note: 5 hours of instrument time may be carried over from the Private Pilot Licence. In addition, 5 of the 10 instrument hours required may be flight simulator time and can be applied to this rating. These hours cannot however, be used to reduce the total dual or solo time required.

Night Flying

* 10 hours consisiting of: 5 hours dual (with instructor) and 5 hours Solo

Note: These flight training times are based on Transport Canada minimums and more training may be required.

Graduation Requirements

An applicant must satisfy all training criteria as outlined in the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).

Graduation Privilages of the Night Rating

The night rating entitles the holder to fly any single-engine or multi-engine non-high performance aircraft to fly at night under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).

Commercial License

www.canadianflyers.com

Whether you are interested in working as a full time professional pilot or you are a private pilot seeking to enhance your flying skills, a commercial licence is one of the most challenging but rewarding experiences a pilot can achieve. Most private pilots acquire the required minimum flight training times within a few years of flying although qualifying flight hours can be accumulated in much shorter periods of time if desired. Attaining this licence is a key step to obtaining employment in the aviation field and it also allows recipients to engage a number of advanced aviation qualification courses.
The prerequisites for a commercial pilot's licence as prescribed by Transport Canada are as follows:

Private License

www.canadianflyers.com

This is the most common type of licence is in general aviation. Unlike the Recreational Pilot Permit, it allows the successful candiate to carry more than one passenger. Qualified private pilots are able to take friends or family members for short excursions and frequently engage in a flying vacation. So if you enjoy a little adventure such as a ballgame in New York or a sunset tour over Niagara Falls, this is indeed the licence for you. Many Recreational Pilot Permit holders move on to complete their Private Pilot Licence since they have already achieved many of the prerequisites required for this qualification.

The prerequisites for a private pilot's licence as prescribed by Transport Canada are as follows:

* Applicant may commence Flight Training at any age, but must be 16 years of age prior to their first solo and 17 years of age prior to the issue of a Private Pilot Licence.
* Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or a person lawfully admitted into Canada for flight training.
* Prior to the “first solo”, the applicant must complete a Category 1 or 3 Aviation Medical Examination by a Transport Canada approved Aviation Medical Examiner. (Ask staff for a list of Aviation Medical Examiners)

* 12 Hours Solo

Note : These flight training times are based on Transport Canada minimums and more training may be required.

Graduation Requirements

* The applicant must obtain a minimum of 60% on all four sections of the Transport Canada written examination Private Pilot Aero plane (PPAER).
* The applicant must pass a practical flight test conducted by a Transport Canada Designated Flight Test Examiner.
* The applicant must satisfy all training criteria as outlined in the Canadian Aviaition Regulations (CARS).

Graduation Privilages of the Recreational Permit Holder

The Private Pilot Licence entitles the holder to fly any single-engine non-high performance aircraft during daylight hours under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). This licence allows for additional endorsements such as instrument, night, floats and multi-engine.

Recreational Permit

www.canadianflyers.com

Successful completion of a Recreational Pilot Permit allows a pilot to fly any single engine airplane certified to carry four passengers where there is no more than one passenger on board. Recreational pilots are also permitted to fly ultra light aircraft. This type of permit is ideal for persons who are interested in engaging in casual flying on a relatively frequent basis but within limited vincinities of their own airports. While there is no formal requirement to attend the private pilot ground school course, it is highly recommended to ensure that every pilot is well informed on basic aviation theory and procedures.

The prerequisites for a recreational pilot permit as prescribed by Transport Canada are as follows:

* Applicants must be a minimum age of 16 years prior to the issuance of this permit. Training may begin prior to this age.
* Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or a person lawfully admitted into Canada for flight training.
* Applicants must complete an aviation medical examination by a Transport Canada approved aviation medical examiner to a minimum of a category 4 standard (ask staff for a list of Aviation Medical Examiners).

Training requirements for this licence are as follows:

Ground School (Optional)

A minimum of 40 hours ground instruction is required. The private pilot ground school course is normally held on Wednesday evenings for 3 hours from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Please check with our staff however to confirm course availability and timings.

Flight Training

A minimum of twenty five (25) hours consisting of:

* 15 Hours dual (with instructor); and
* 5 Hours Solo

Note : These flight training times are based on Transport Canada minimums and more training may be required.

Graduation Requirements

* The applicant must pass a practical flight test conducted by a Transport Canada Designated Flight Test Examiner.
* Theapplicant must satisfy all training criteria as outlined in the Canadian Aviaition Regulations (CARs).

Graduation Privilages of the Recreational Permit Holder

The recreational pilot permit entitles the holder to fly any single-engine piston powered non-high performance aircraft with a maximum of one passenger on board. The aircraft may have no more than four seats. This permit does not allow for additional endorsements such as instrument, night, or floats. All training completed toward this permit may be credited toward a private pilot licence. Flights are only allowed during daylight hours under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and are restricted within Canada.

Welcome to All American Helicopters, LLC, where our mission is to enable pilots to realize their full potential safely and expediently.

We are located at 5077A Sabre Lane, Denton Municipal Airport, Denton, TX 76207. Our Chief Pilot/Chief Instructor, Gene La Coste, has thousands of hours and is military trained (two star General).

All American Helicopters is a Part 141 Certified flight school. This means that our training curriculum that has been approved by the FAA and that our school is subject to regular and random FAA inspections of school facilities, aircraft, student training records and instructor records. We have to meet the highest possible standards in well maintained aircraft at all times. In addition to meeting these high standards required by the FAA, All American Helicopters has been approved by the Texas Veterans Commission to provide flight training to veterans under the Montgomery GI Bill. We are also approved to issue M-1 visas to International students

Our company philosophy is very simple. Most flight schools have flight instructors with low hours (typically low hundreds) who have no real life flight experience. These schools have inexperienced instructors at low pay in order to increase profit. Typically as soon as these instructors reach 1000 hours, they leave for better paying jobs. You, the student, are paying the same rate for an inexperienced instructor who will likely leave the company as soon as you have paid for his needed flight hours. Conversely, we offer thousands of hours of actual flight time experience and stability for the same price or less. The benefits to you are obvious.

We do our very best to ensure that you have everything you need in our aircraft to realize your full potential and be the best pilot you can be.

all2.jpgOur training helicopters are brand new 300 CBI's from the Schweizer factory and are fully equipped and extremely well maintained.

Our avionics include an Attitude Indicator, Heading Indicator, Turn Co-Ordinator and Garmin GPS. We also have 2 radios.
Your safety comes first!

We are also very aware of costs - let’s face it, learning to fly a helicopter is not cheap. We believe that we have the edge that comes with experience. You benefit from this by working one on one with someone who is easily able to recognize your challenges and quickly and effectively help you overcome them. That’s money in your pocket with time saved.

We teach all ratings:

Private Rotorcraft/Helicopter (Part 141, Part 61)
Instrument Rotorcraft/Helicopter (Part 141, Part 61)
Commercial Rotorcraft/Helicopter (Part 141, Part 61)
CFI Rotorcraft/Helicopter (Part 61)
CFII Rotorcraft/Helicopter (Part 61)
ATP Rotorcraft/Helicopter (Part 61)
Add Ons Rotorcraft/Helicopter: Private, Instrument, Commercial, ATP (Part 61)

If flying is your passion, you are at the right place. All welcome. Learn to fly with us. Be safe. Be Professional. Be Competent. Be the Best you can be. Realize your full potential. That's our goal for you at All American Helicopters.

all3.jpgWe provide as much flexibility as you need. Recreational pilots typically only want to do the Private program. Most continue on to get their Instrument Rating as well. If you are looking at flying part-time, we will work with you to accommodate your schedule. We offer suitable financing options to go with these program choices.

Many of our pilots are on the career track and take all their ratings with us. If you are on the career track, we recommend that you take your Instrument Rating immediately after your Private. This enables you to apply the hours you build during your instrument training to the required 150 hours for your Commercial. Once again, we offer suitable financing options for the Professional Pilot.

We created the Professional Pilot Program with you in mind. Our Professional Pilot Program includes Private, Instrument, Commercial, CFI, CFII. If we know up front that you are going to go through the full program, we work with you to plan ahead so that we maximize your time and minimize your costs. Based on Part 141 FAA minimum flight hours and our discounted rates packages, the Professional Pilot program costs $57,650. This includes everything: flight hours, ground instruction, books, tests and checkrides. Please note that costs vary based on student progress and ability. You may need more than the FAA minimums to complete the program.

Have come into a little bit of money and I have just been made redundant. So I feel I have enough money to maybe start Helicopter Pilot Training.

I have some questions for all you Rotary Heads out there.

Q2 It would be nice to get my PPL & then ttrain for my CPL so......is £25,000.00 enough to see me through.

Q3 How hard is it to make the jump from PPL to a CPL?

Q4 Is it hard to penetrate the commercial route as future employment?

Q5 In regards to Q4 what roles are there in the UK for someone with a CPL.

Q6 What is the ideal amount of hours required for someone to consider taking you on.

Q7 Is it easier to find a school that will take you right through from PPL to CPL to Instrucctor, if so where in counties above?

Q8 How Stringent is the Medicals?

Most of the helicopter pilots on here are from the US, so you should try to find a flight school near you where they can give details that are applicable to the regulations and curriculum in your country. I will answer some of your questions as well as I can, but please check the details.

Cost
I don't think £25,000 will be nearly enough. It is about $50,000 - $60,000 in USD, and the UK will be more expensive. This school shows their hourly rate as £290 per hour.
http://www.london-helicopters.co.uk/trai...
I don't know if that is average or not, but it sounds about right. I believe the requirement in the UK is 155 hours: 155 x 290 = £44,950. This does not include books and materials, ground school, testing fees, instructor training, etc., etc.

Employment
I have no idea what the job requirements are in the UK. In the US, people typically work as a flight instructor to build flight experience. It usually takes 1000 hours to get an entry level job as anything but an instructor.

Medical Requirements
Your age shouldn't be a problem. Check here for medical information:
http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=...

Subjects
The school will teach you everything you need to know. This FAQ has a list of the basic knowledge areas you will cover:
http://www.pplmania.com/ppltrainer/commo...

Flight School Listings
Check here for flight schools in your area. Do some shopping around and research before choosing a school.
http://www.bestaviation.net/uk/

Also, many people come to the US to take advantage of lower costs. Schools like the one below offer programs for European certification:
http://www.heli.com/helicopter-programs/...

Forums
I don't know of any that are in the UK, but check the following:
http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads-23/
http://www.justhelicopters.com/home/jhfo...
http://www.verticalreference.com/

I hope this has been at least partially helpful. Again, it is difficult to answer some of your questions because the details will be different in each country. Good luck!

Ken Armstrong Book Review: Professional Helicopter Pilot Studies, Canadian Version – By Phil Croucher
Written by Ken Armstrong
WOW!!! When it comes to helicopter piloting, this book covers all the bases. If you are an ab initio student or fledgling flyer this book will provide virtually all the information you will need to ace the Canadian exams and accelerate your professional career.
WOW!!! When it comes to helicopter piloting, this book covers all the bases. If you are an ab initio student or fledgling flyer this book will provide virtually all the information you will need to ace the Canadian exams and accelerate your professional career. If you can already walk on water as a highly experienced rotary wing pilot, be prepared to levitate above the surface. I don’t think I’ve ever read an aviation book that taught me so much in a very readable format that also provides an excellent refresher. Author Phil Croucher’s international flying experience has expanded the book’s dimensions with a worldly touch and since many of us have served or will serve in other countries, the information is extremely valuable. On the topic of bang for the buck, the B&W version at $80 (half the price of the sparsely coloured version) is a bargain because it contains all of the learning that would be involved in buying rotary- wing manuals totaling hundreds or thousands of dollars. The publisher covers the scope of the book when he states Professional Pilot Helicopter Studies should be read by:

* Those who want to see what they are letting themselves in for
* Those who want to do some pre-study before starting a flying course
* Those who cannot understand the materials on the course they are already on
* •Those who want a reminder of the trouble they went through!

reviewAnother good reason to purchase Phil Crocher’s experience relates to helicopter pilot instructing. One way or another, many, if not most of us will instruct others during our careers. Whether it is recurrency training as a check pilot or chief pilot at a company, ab initio rotary- wing training or advanced training whereby you pass on highly developed skills to students, having a manual that covers the bases will prove priceless. Have you ever had a situation whereby you were trying to get a point across and the student just wasn’t getting it? Turn to Crocher’s concordance…

For those of you who think you already know enough about our industry, think again. This book will not only provide a useful review in our changing realm, but also provide newly available safety information that we can all benefit from. As an accident investigator and aviation consultant in the courts, I can assure readers that the seasoned pilots who are wrapping helicopters up into crumpled balls are not as knowledgeable as they thought! Unfortunately all too many pilots stop learning or reviewing data after their written and flight tests.

Make no mistake, the knowledge within the covers goes well beyond Transport Canada exams and well it should because the world of professional flying is far more challenging than the written exam where the most serious risk is falling off a chair. Furthermore, flying schools cannot teach all of the skills and facts you need to know to survive because they cater to the basic Transport Canada rating minimums. Moreover schools’ hands are tied when it comes to curriculum expansion and they can’t augment the flight training due to escalated costs for their students. In the competitive marketplace, any training establishment that greatly expands the training program would drive itself out of business.

So it falls upon pilots to top up the skills and information they need to operate safely. How can they best do this? Well, they teach themselves when they finally get a flying job – however, this is often a deadly scenario. After leaving the military with a few thousand pilot-in-command hours, it seemed that rigourous training would prepare me for anything the civilian industry could lay on me. How wrong I was! There were many close calls with an imminent burial detail as I slowly educated myself into the demanding world of civilian rotary wing operations.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking peacetime military flying is more demanding. Two pilot crews and stringent safety standards in flying forces not responsible to provide a profit makes military ops a relative piece of cake. Compared to on-job risks, a better/safer way to learn the ropes is through a well-written reference manual such as Mr. Croucher’s.

My advice? Invest in this rotary-wing piloting bible and read one of Phil’s 456 subchapters each day. It is not only a good read but also an inexpensive form of flight safety insurance. Health Warning: Pilots with back or hernia injuries be advised this tome weighs more than four pounds (about two kilos).

Ken Armstrong is an ATP rated pilot who has likely flown more helicopter types than anyone in the world and taught advanced flying skills in dozens of countries.
